Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a hybrid academy and a traditional co-op?

Suncoast Academy operates as an academic homeschool hybrid, distinct from a traditional homeschool co-op in its structure, rigor, and expectations. Unlike co-ops, which typically offer parent-led enrichment classes with flexible attendance and minimal academic accountability, Suncoast Academy provides a rigorous, structured curriculum led by qualified instructors. Students are expected to attend classes consistently, complete assignments, meet deadlines, and demonstrate academic progress through assessments and graded work. The hybrid model blends teacher-led instruction with at-home learning, allowing students to receive high-quality education while maintaining the flexibility of homeschooling. Attendance is crucial, as each lesson builds on previous material, ensuring continuity and academic success. This level of structure and accountability prepares students for future academic and professional pursuits, making Suncoast Academy an ideal choice for families seeking a high-quality, academically rigorous alternative to traditional homeschooling.

How does a hybrid academy work?

Our academy meets twice a week from 8:45am-3:30pm. All lectures, class projects, testing, science labs/dissections and other formal instruction will be done on those two days. On the “off” days, homework will be assigned by each teacher to be conducted prior to coming to the next day.

Is this a drop-off program?

Yes, Suncoast Academy is a drop-off program. Parents are not required to stay on campus, but are welcome to help during school events!

Does Suncoast keep records for students?

While your Quick Schools account provides report cards and transcripts, it is the parent’s responsibility to keep records according to the needs of their home education.

Is the school locked during school hours?

Yes. The building is to be locked at all hours when school is in operation. We also have a security monitor present on campus at all times.

Are school uniforms required?

A school branded top (t-shirt, polo, sweatshirt, etc.) is required every day that your children attend school. There are no specifications on shorts or jeans, but shorts must be mid-thigh and pants may not have inappropriate holes in them.

Are their field trips or special events?

Yes, we plan enriching field trips and on-campus events that enhance learning and build community. Past trips have included the Pioneer Settlement, Orlando Science Center, New Smyrna Beach Eco-Boat Tour, and the Central Florida Zoo. On campus, students enjoy historian presentations, holiday celebrations, and end-of-year ceremonies.

Does Suncoast accept scholarships?

Families using the Step Up for Students PEP Scholarship should be aware that Suncoast Academy requires all tuition and fees to be paid upfront before your child’s enrollment is finalized. Unlike traditional scholarships that may pay schools directly, the PEP Scholarship is a reimbursement-based program, meaning families must first cover the costs out of pocket and then request reimbursement from Step Up for Students.

Once your payment is made, Suncoast Academy will provide all necessary financial documentation, including invoices and receipts, for you to submit to PEP for reimbursement. It’s important to keep track of all paperwork and follow PEP’s reimbursement process to ensure timely processing of your funds. Please view our PEP tab on our homepage for more information.
